I've been looking after houses round here for about twenty-five years now.
It started at the local pub. I worked behind the bar and got to know a lot of people, and they got to know me. Someone needed a hand with their house, then someone else did. It went from there. I've never advertised. It's always been word of mouth, and it still is.
Then I had my little one, and this work fitted round that in a way not much else would. I could do the houses in the village and still be where I needed to be. For a good while I did this alongside another job.
The elderly side I sort of fell into. I'd worked in a care home before, so when families started asking whether I'd keep an eye on Mum as well as do the cleaning, it wasn't a stretch. Now it's half of what I do, and I'd not give it up.
I'm a caring sort by nature, so I enjoy it. I'm also practical, and I'm good at sorting a problem out before it becomes one. Professional when it needs to be, and a bit of fun when it doesn't.
People ask me back because I turn up, and because I do it properly whether anyone's watching or not. Hard working, truthful, dedicated. I live here, and I'd rather the money and the work stayed here too.
Most people find me by word of mouth. This is just so the work can carry on when I can't be everywhere.
